Awareness Program on Disaster Management Conducted at MVGR
The NSS Unit of MVGR College of Engineering (Autonomous) successfully organized an Awareness Program on Disaster Management in association with the 5th Battalion APSP State Disaster Response Force on Friday at the college campus. The program was conducted with the objective of educating students on disaster preparedness, effective response strategies, and the importance of community participation during emergency situations.
The program featured Inspector Sri S. Chandra Sekhar as the Chief Resource Person, who delivered an insightful address highlighting the growing need for disaster management awareness in the present-day scenario. He elaborated on the crucial roles and responsibilities of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in acquiring life-saving disaster management skills.
A team of 25 members from the Disaster Response Force conducted live demonstrations and practical sessions, showcasing advanced equipment and rescue techniques used during natural calamities such as cyclones and floods. Students actively participated and gained hands-on experience in rescue operations in river and sea scenarios. They were also educated on safety measures to be followed during thunderstorms, lightning, fire accidents, earthquakes, and train accidents.
Special emphasis was laid on early warning systems, CPR training, and basic physical examination techniques, equipping students with essential knowledge to respond effectively during emergencies. The team further shared real-life disaster incidents from Andhra Pradesh, helping students understand the seriousness and unpredictability of such situations.
An exhibition on disaster response tools and components was also organized, which attracted significant attention from students and faculty members.
The program witnessed the presence of Sri G. Siva Prasad (RSI), Sri K. Bhaskara Rao (RSI), NSS Programme Officer Sri N. Shanmukha Rao, and Dr. G. Anjaneyulu, Professor of ECE & Boys Hostel Warden, along with NSS volunteers, faculty, and a large number of students.
The event proved to be highly informative and impactful, enhancing awareness and preparedness among students to effectively handle disaster situations and contribute responsibly to society.
